Wow!!! We’ve completed the first 2 weeks of school! What’s up next? Searching for some Plans & Ideas For Week 3 Of Kindergarten? Get ready for fun-filled activities to captivate and delight your little learners.
Week 3
After establishing routines, completing numerous name activities, and rotating through various stations, it is time to delve into the work. What initial skills should you focus on? Which activities align best with these foundational academic skills for kindergarten?
Letter Id
When introducing and teaching letter identification, it’s crucial not to assume that little learners have prior knowledge about letters. Begin from the basics. Kickstart your day by focusing on a specific letter, engage in a group activity like creating a circle map, sing songs related to the letter, write about it, and practice recognizing it. (Ideas For Teaching Letter Identification In Kindergarten) This is the perfect opportunity to rotate through stations as you start pulling your small groups. Drawing Journals
Drawing journals are introduced to enhance students’ beginning writing skills. Since drawing is a crucial skill that serves as a key step before writing, it is important to introduce and practice from the beginning. Creating simple images of familiar objects is not only enjoyable for little learners but also enhances their writing abilities, especially when illustrating words with initial sounds. Your kindergartners can kick off their day by drawing and writing beginning letters down in their drawing journals. (See: Teaching Guided Drawing to Beginning Writers for more.)
Character and Settings
Now is the time to introduce characters and settings. Teaching these elements not only encourages critical thinking but also boosts reading comprehension. Engaging in meaningful practice activities can also stimulate kindergarteners’ imaginations and expand their vocabulary.

Numbers
While you may have covered numbers briefly before, it is crucial to now explicitly introduce and teach number identification to your kindergartners. Do not assume they already know this information!! Even though they may understand counting and matching fingers to their age, they likely lack a fundamental understanding of numbers, their meanings, and their role in the classroom. Start by using visual aids with the entire group. Then, you can transition your little learners to station activities for practical number practice. This is the time for you to work with small groups to provide additional support, assess your little learners, or offer personalized assistance. I developed the Numbers Ultra Bundle to address teachers’ requirements for materials that effectively introduce and instruct numbers 0-20, including practice pages, punch cards, and jumbo cards.
2d Shapes
Shapes can be found all around us, and it’s essential for little learners to learn and identify these shapes. By introducing and practicing them through enjoyable and interactive activities, not only are these activities meaningful, but they also align with kindergarten academic standards.
