As kindergarten teachers, we love to keep things fresh and fun to keep our little learners on their toes! One super cool topic we can dive into is weather! So, grab your raincoats and sunglasses, because here come my Top Weather Activities for Little Learners that you absolutely need to sprinkle into your curriculum!

Many kindergarten teachers incorporate weather into their science curriculum. However, I’ve discovered that linking the topic of weather with literacy and math allows little learners to engage with this subject without directly teaching it. This approach transforms learning about weather into an enjoyable part of our daily and academic routine.
Weather Charting
Start each day by having a weather chart in the classroom. Let the kids observe the weather outside and discuss it together. They can take turns adding stickers or drawings to represent sunny, rainy, or cloudy days. This activity not only teaches them about different weather types but also encourages observation skills and group discussions.
Incorporate simple file folders along with this File Folder Calendar Activity, enabling your students to learn and practice calendar concepts while also charting the weather. This approach is ideal for daily weather tracking and education. Include these straightforward activities in your curriculum to enhance weather-related learning. (This can be found at the KC Store and on TPT.)

Dress for the Weather
Create a fun dressing-up game where your little learners can select outfits based on different weather conditions. Use pictures of various weather types and let them choose appropriate clothing items from a collection of dress-up clothes. Consider items like umbrellas, rain boots, heavy parkas, mittens, hats, sunglasses, and sun hats. This activity helps them understand how to adapt to the weather and enhances their vocabulary related to clothing and seasons.
Songs and Music
Incorporate music into your lessons with catchy weather songs and rhymes. This can be a delightful way to reinforce concepts. You might create simple songs about the sun shining, raindrops falling, or wind blowing, making it easier for your students to remember weather terms while having fun! (Simply google for Kids Weather Songs for a plethora of options.) (Music and Movement In The Classroom)
Books and Storytime
Choose books that focus on different weather conditions. After reading, engage your little learners in discussions about the story’s setting and how the weather affected the characters. This not only enhances their comprehension skills but also ties in literacy with the theme of weather.
