???? Surviving the Chaos: End of August and First Month of School Activities for Kindergarten

The first month of kindergarten is a beautiful whirlwind—equal parts exciting and exhausting. As August winds down and we wrap up the first few weeks of school, many kindergarten teachers are asking the same question:
“Is it too early to start counting down to fall break?” (Just kidding… kind of.)

But truly, the end of August marks a turning point. We’ve laid the groundwork, started routines, and survived the toughest part—the first month of school in kindergarten. ????

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite kindergarten activities and classroom routines that help manage the chaos, support learning, and keep things running (somewhat) smoothly!

???? First Month of School Activities That Actually Work

Starting the year off right means building a strong foundation. Here are a few teacher-tested, kid-approved activities that help with that all-important kindergarten transition.

Learning to recognize, spell, and write names is HUGE in the first month. ???? Kindergarten Routines in the First Month of School

Let’s be honest—establishing classroom routines in kindergarten is the REAL curriculum during August. Here are some must-haves:

Morning Tubs: Quiet, hands-on activities that ease kids into the day. “Morning Bins In Kindergarten: A Must Have Routine For A Calm Start” have ideas and resources.

Visual Schedules: These help with transitions and reduce meltdowns.

Clean-Up Songs: Life-changing. Enough said.
