Are you looking for another guided reading activity for your emergent readers? I have the perfect activity for you!! Check out this Alphabet Tactile Tracing Book that is a purposeful practice activity for your emergent readers during small groups.
Research has shown that having students trace letters with their finger (without writing materials) is crucial in building muscle memory for each letter. This technique helps students develop proper formation, which then translates to their actual writing (with writing tools) of each letter.
Therefore, I created these kinesthetic alphabet reading cards. Not only can your little learners practice independently, but they are perfect for small groups.
Includes:
- 28 Alphabet Letter Pages
- Large, standard font for each upper and lowercase letter
- Beginning sound pictures on each page to aid in learning letter names and sounds
- Two versions each for the letters “g” and “s” to ensure that beginning sound pictures don’t have blends and can be heard clearly by students.
Tips For Using These Cards Effectively
Alphabet tactile tracing cards can be a valuable learning tool for emergent readers in kindergarten. Here are some tips on how to effectively use these cards in your small group sessions:
- Introduce the cards one at a time, starting with the letters in your students’ names. This will help them feel a sense of ownership and connection to the learning process.
- Demonstrate how to trace the letter with your finger, emphasizing proper formation and directionality. Encourage your little learners to do the same.
- Provide opportunities for your students to practice tracing the letters independently. You can also have them say the letter name and sound as they trace.
- Use the tactile tracing cards in conjunction with other literacy activities, such as reading and writing. Encourage your little learners to find and trace the letters they see in books or use the cards as a reference when practicing handwriting.
Standards:
