Let’s be real—teaching little learners can get expensive! Between supplies, centers, and all the fun extras, those small purchases add up fast. But the good news? You can still create a joyful, engaging classroom without spending a fortune. Here are 3 of my favorite ways to save money for your Pre-K, Kindergarten, or 1st grade classroom (or homeschool!).

Shop Smart and Seasonal

Dollar stores, Target’s Dollar Spot, and clearance aisles are a teacher’s best friend! Stock up on manipulatives, bins, and craft supplies when they go on sale—especially after holidays. You’ll be amazed at how many items can be reused year after year with a little creativity. Pro tip: Think ahead and grab next season’s goodies early when prices drop!

Example: After Christmas, grab those mini ornaments, gift bows, and holiday cupcake liners when they’re marked down 70–90% off.

Activity Idea: Use them for a “Bow Count & Sort” Math Center!
Place a mix of different-colored bows in a sensory bin or tray. Your students can scoop, count, and sort them by color or size, then record their results on a simple math mat. You can even add number cards for a counting addition challenge!

It’s sparkly, hands-on, and budget-friendly—plus it sneaks in sorting, counting, and fine-motor practice without costing more than a few dollars.

Pro Tip: Think ahead and grab seasonal goodies when prices drop. Those red and green bows easily become Valentine’s or spring manipulatives later on!

Use Free and Reusable Resources

There are so many amazing free printables and activities available online—and I love helping teachers find them! When you sign up for my newsletter, you’ll receive a weekly FREEBIE delivered right to your inbox. Many of these resources are simple download-and-print activities you can use right away, while others are perfect for laminating or slipping into dry-erase sleeves and page protectors. Reuse them all year long for hands-on learning—less printing, more saving!

Create a Classroom Wish List

Parents and families love to help, but they often don’t know what’s needed. Create an Amazon Wish List or DonorsChoose page for classroom essentials like markers, glue sticks, or books. It’s an easy, no-pressure way for your classroom community to support learning while easing your out-of-pocket costs.

🌟 Final Thought

Saving money doesn’t mean cutting out the fun. With a little planning, creativity, and teamwork, you can build a warm, engaging classroom that inspires learning—without draining your wallet!
