Today is National Best Friends Day and there is no better way to celebrate than with a book release on making friends. I recently had an opportunity to interview author Julia Cook about the release of her book, Making Friends is an Art 2nd Edition.
You probably know Julia Cook from her plethora of social skills and social development books, such as ‘My Mouth is a Volcano’, ‘A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue‘, and ‘Decibella and the Six Inch Voice‘. Those are just a few of her 112 published books.
I LOVE her books and have been using them in my classroom for years! If you have been following me for any length of time, than you know how I feel about using books to teach concepts and/standards. It’s a MUST! I even made a list of books that I feel are important for teaching rules and procedures and many of Julia Cook’s books are included. You can read the list HERE.
My interview with Julia Cook started with her telling me about her educational career and the reason she started writing children’s’ books. (It’s pretty awesome, if you ask me!) We moved on to talking about the release of the 2nd Edition of her book, Making Friends is an Art and how it has changed.
The timing of our interview and the release of this book could not have been more appropriate. Julia discussed how critical feedback from a colleague caused her to reevaluate her thinking and perspective of the characters and story line in the original edition. She re-vamped the story and the second edition of Making Friends is an Art was born. You can check out the trailer for the book below.
