All About...Kindergarten Chaos

Hi everyone and welcome to Kindergarten Chaos, my online virtual classroom! This is All About Mrs.Peterson…

Today I am linking up with my ‘Kinder Tribe’ collaborative blog to share a few tidbits about myself and my passion for teaching kinder! My name is Abigail, but I usually go by Abbie. I live in Las Vegas, Nevada with my husband of almost 17 years and my 3 kids. My kids are 14, 8, and 6. This school year they will be going into the 9th, 3rd, and 1st grades. AHHHH…I can’t believe I am going to have a high schooler!

I have taught at the same school since 2006 and all 3 of my kids have attended the same school, which is nice for mama! My first year I taught 2nd grade and loved it! I got pregnant with my daughter that school year and decided to take a leave of absence, which extended to a total of 5 years and 1 more baby! 🙂 But during those 5 years my oldest son attended the school and I was there on a daily basis as the PTO President. So glad for that experience and time home with my babies!

In 2012, I got the opportunity to come back and teach 1 session of 1/2 day kindergarten. I was hesitant at first, since the thought of teaching little ones the foundations of education petrified me!! But after the first day, I fell in love and my passion for teaching Kindergarten has only gotten stronger and more passionate!

I ended up teaching 2 years of 1/2 day kindergarten, until the 2014/2015 school year when I began teaching full-day kindergarten. What a huge difference full-day kindergarten is and I love it! Besides teaching and keeping up with this kindergarten blog, I have a lifestyle blog, Lovin’ Our Chaos, where I share simple crafts, simple meals, and DIY projects.

I’m so happy you took the time to stop by and visit with me today and I look forward to ‘seeing’ you again! Feel free to follow me on Kindergartenchaos.com, Instagram, FB, Twitter, Pinterest.

  1. I had never heard of My Mouth is a Volcano until this year and I LOVE it!!! It is such a good book for kinders to learn what interrupting is and how it can make someone feel! I would break it out as soon as we seemed to ‘forget’ and we would all get emotional as we listened to how sad it was to be interrupted!! Thanks for linking up with us!!!

  2. Hi Abbie! I love my large paper clips too! I also need lots of binder clips around to keep those stacks of papers that are too thick for my paper clips 😉 I have heard of lots of great things about “My Mouth is a Volcano” but have yet to check it out! I’ll need to put that on my to-do list!

  3. Giant paper clips are amazing! I colored a bunch with some sharpies last year to pretty them up!

And Simply Kinder is such a great resource- I’ve gotten so many practical ideas from her!

  4. I enjoyed reading your post! I have two high schoolers and one heading off to college! I’m glad that you are part of the kinder tribe! Julie ( Green Apple Lessons)

    1. Hi Annie and thank you for stopping by! It is so good to ‘meet’ and collaborate with other kindergarten teachers who have the same passion as I do! I look forward to reading your posts!

  6. I LOVE your book choice, that’s my go-to book for blurting out! My kinders love acting that story out! I am also entering my fifth year of kindergarten and can’t imagine being anywhere else! I have to start each day with an icy cold Coke, so I can relate to your Must Have! Huge paper clips are great, you should check out CuteByDesignCo on Etsy for some really incredible paper clips!! I too love to watch my kinders love learning more and more each day!
Thanks so much for sharing more about yourself!

  7. Hi Abbie!
I’m so glad I could stop by and learn more about you! I absolutely adore the book My Mouth is a Volcano! Our school counselor comes by each year and does a lesson with that book for our Kinders! So glad you are in our tribe!

  8. I MUST read that book this year! I usually read “Interrupting Chicken,” but we all know that our kinders need to be reminded several times to not interrupt! Hehe!
