Description

As a teacher of Little Learners, I became very frustrated with the limited options that were available to me for my small groups and beginning readers. All of the books that were ‘leveled’ were not developmentally appropriate. There were way too many words that were not decodable. So I decided to create decodable reader books that were actually developmentally appropriate. These decodable reader books are full of decodable words that are short vowel centered, as well as high-frequency words. Each book has an optional post reading sheet.

  • (3) Foldable Decodable Readers for each short vowel – a, e, i, o, u (Total of 15 books)
  • Optional Post Reading Sheet for each book

Standards:

RF.K.1
Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.

Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page.
RF.K.2
Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
RF.K.2d
Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words. (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.)

Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does).
