Counting with Kindergarteners every day is important but can easily become monotonous! I try really hard to make sure that activities are engaging but functional as well. Just as with this Ordering Pumpkins activity is!
I really enjoy including seasonal and holiday themes for our activities. I feel like my students respond very well when the activities are relevant to the times. Kids are excited for Fall and Halloween, so they are extra excited to do activities when they include these themes. Even if we are doing counting practice for the 5th time that week.
Here are some other pumpkin themed activities that my students responded well to as well.
Pumpkin Number Order Printable
This activity is super simple to prep and gives multiple benefits for students. Not only will this help with strengthening counting and number order but also scissor and coloring skills.
The first thing to do is print out the pack and make copies for each student. Students will need scissors, glue, coloring utensils of choice, as well as a base paper. We used orange sentence strips.
I had my students color each of the pumpkins before cutting them out. Once they were all cut I asked them to glue them down onto the base paper in number order.
If your students are ready for numbers 1-12, this whole packet will be great for them. If you need less of a challenge, just use a few of the numbers. This could be 1-5.
Alternate Ideas:
- You could print the pumpkins on orange paper and use white or black base paper.
- You could have the students color the pumpkins in a pattern of two or three different colors.
- Another idea is to use construction paper, instead of sentence strips.
