5 Uses for Slinkys in the Kindergarten Classroom

Let’s jazz up those literacy classes for little ones by adding a twist of fun and frolic with a slinky as their trusty sidekick! Check out these 5 Uses for Slinkys in the Kindergarten Classroom to sprinkle some enchantment over your literacy adventures!

Teaching CVC Words

  • Pick up some min-slinkies at your local party store or on Amazon.
  • Write CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words on cards. (Grab these CVC Picture & Word Cards)
  • Have your students stretch out the slinky as they say each sound in the word.
  • For example, for the word “cat,” students would stretch the slinky while saying /k/ /a/ /t/ and then bring it back together to say the whole word.

Rhyming Words

  • Write pairs of rhyming words on cards. (Rhyming Kit)
  • Have your little learners stretch the slinky to connect the two rhyming words.
  • For example, for “cat” and “hat,” your students can stretch the slinky to connect the two words that rhyme. (For more about rhyming see “Rhyming Activities For Little Learners)

@kindergarten_chaos

If you are looking for a way to organize all of those Sight Words/HFWs you teach, then this kit is for you!???? P.S. I have 2 different options: one option uses the terminology sight words and one option is totally editable, so you can use your own terminology; ie: heart words, flash words, etc. ???? Sentence Building

@kindergarten_chaos

Have you started building sentences with your little learners?! Wait, no more! This MUST HAVE resource is an interactive way to practice building those sentences whole-group, small-group, independently or even in the writing station. First, use the pocket chart cards to model building a sentence. Next, have students practice building a sentence and reading it to their peers. And finally have little writers show what they know with the accompanying cut, build and write practice pages. Included are (2) different options for differentiation, as well as a color-coded option and black/white. Who needs this for their little writers? #kindergartenchaos #handsonlearning #kindergarten #kindergartenwriting #morningbins
